Equality for All
Everyone deserves to be treated with the utmost respect, but some people within the LGBT community do not receive respect. Ignorance and intolerance are at the root of the problem. People who are unwilling to change their views are the most stubborn. This is why it is so important to educate people on the merits of equality. Anyone who is gay, lesbian, or transgender, should be treated the way you would like to be treated. Education is the key, and it starts at an early age. Here are some ways that those within the LGBT community can make a difference in their own lives, and in the lives of others.
Early education is important because young minds are moulded much more easily. We are not born with an inherent negative disposition toward those who have a different sexual preference. These behaviours are learned from parents and peers. Societal and family influences shape who we become, so when younger people are made aware of the rights of others, they are much more willing to except them. However, early education starts with parents. All parents must be willing to set aside their own feelings to make sure that their children have the opportunity to choose for themselves. The LGBT community benefits when others judge them by their true character.
Raising awareness is a critical step as well. This is done through a variety of platforms, but social media is the primary way to reach a much larger audience. Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are great places to go and raise awareness. When you decide to posy about gay rights, for example, you must post an informed and interesting message. These types of message spread to others within the community much more quickly. This enables other people to take part in a common cause for equality. One of the best ways to reach a larger audience is to make sure that your posts are available to the public, and not just your friends groups.
Support groups are essential for those within the LGBT community and also adult work awareness such as The Saucy London scheme , especially when their rights are being violated. Although friends might be supportive, they do not understand what those within this community have to go through on a daily basis. Sharing experiences and strategies to deal with intolerant people is a great way to alleviate stress, and to promote social change. These groups propel people to behave differently toward the ones that they care about the most. This means that there will be less intolerance, and more understanding amongst the various groups of people in every country.
Education within the home is important, but a school education regarding LGBT rights is essential as well. This type of education is most effective on the high school level. These students have the capacity to understand differences, and how to make sure that they do not discriminate against others. The issue should not be ignored in school, and it should be embraced. It can be worked into an anti-bullying plan for most major school districts.
